Acorns for artist Lou Gardiner.

The acorn on the left is for Lou Gardiner’s ‘stitch an acorn’ campaign and is part of her ‘acorn army’. The acorn on the right is for Lou’s cape of creative courage, a project she has been commissioned by Marchmont House to create. These are the first items I have ever hand embroidered. I taught myself new techniques such as stump work and felt padding and I’m now hooked on hand embroidery.

For Lou’s ‘stitch an acorn’ campaign. Techniques include felt padding, split stitch, applique, bead embroidery and French knots.

For Lou’s ‘cape of creative courage’. Techniques include, felt padding, satin stitch, couching, running stitch, applique, trellis stitch, buttonhole stitch, and Stumpwork. Lou’s team sent me the acorn template and a curated collection of fabrics to use. I colour matched my cotton and silk threads to these fabrics.
